Car Ownership Has Increased so Rapidly Over the Past Thirty Years

Car ownership has increased so rapidly over the past thirty years that many cities in the world are now ‘one big traffic jam.’ How true do you think this statement is? What measures can governments take to discourage people from using their cars?

These days people prefer to live a luxurious life. As a result, many individuals came up buying things more than once, and automobiles are one of them. This essay completely agrees with the last statement, and the below paragraph explains all the relevant points in detail.

Firstly, the main reason behind the purchase of more than one automobile is easy availability and range of products .earlier the four-wheeler was only used by richer, but nowadays any common man can have it because of low-interest rate on the car loan is easily provided by most of the banks. Secondly, people buy an expensive car to show how much wealthier they are. Hence it has become a status symbol now. For instance, In India, it has become a trend to gift costly vehicles by a father to his son-in-law in marriages.

However, by taking certain steps, we can definitely reduce the congestion of four-wheelers. Firstly, we need to increase the interest rate on car loans, by which one has to think twice while purchasing it. The next step is to market the public transport by decreasing the fare or by introducing various schemes. By this, it will not only be beneficial to humans but benefit the environment at the same time. Additionally, the administrations need to charge a higher toll tax on four-wheelers that the common man will be motivated to use public transport or local transport. For example, in the USA the authorities have increased the parking charges fare so that commuters must choose public transport.

In conclusion, there is no doubt the number of four-wheelers has increased with time, but if corrective measures are taken by the administrative and some government schemes, I think we can reduce it to a certain level. Also, we need to motivate the common man to use local transport for daily commute.
