What Do You Like or Dislike About It?
And Explain Why This Festival Is Important.
There are numerous festivals in my country, Ghana. They range from those that are celebrated on an ethnic basis to those that are celebrated nationally.
They all have some level of recognition in society. However, the most significant among them is Odwira federal. It is celebrated by almost all the people of Ghana from the 1st to the 4th of August every year.
It is a three-day festival, and the activities within each day are fully packed. The first day is generally for cleaning purposes.
The cleaning activities include sweeping and removing cobwebs from public places, distilling choked gutters to enhance the free flow of liquid waste, conducting proper waste segregation and adequate dumping of garbage.
On the second day, family reunions take place. Travellers are officially welcome back home, and different kinds of dishes are prepared for the fest.
In the evening, families gather themselves and have quality time with one another. On the third day, the elders and the chief take the opportunity to settle disputes among people.
They ensure peace among families and seek the well-being of every person. On the same day, they organize Thanksgiving service to show appreciation to the most high for giving them life and strength throughout the year.
During the thanks given service, contributions are made by the natives and outsiders towards building a public amenity.
The only part of the occasion that disgusts me is the level of misunderstandings that mostly happened in the course of the celebration.
This can somehow be associated with excessive intake of alcohol. This festival is very significant because it promotes unity and solidarity among people.
