Fewer and Fewer People Today Write by Hand Using a Pen or Pencil. What Are the Reasons for This? Is This a Positive or A Negative Developmen t?

Nowadays, the invention of computers has a huge impact on our society, both positively and negatively. The number of people who write by hand using a pen or pencil has decreased significantly. I believe this is a negative development, and this essay will discuss the reasons why.

There are several reasons why people do not write by hand using a pen. Firstly, writing on a computer is faster. Smartphones or computers deliver messages at a very high speed compared to writing by hand. For example, a recent survey revealed that typing messages on a computer is 70% faster than using a pen to write. Secondly, writing by hand using a pen and paper wastes resources. This is because people are always with their mobile phones or computers, and they have everything required to type messages, so picking up a pen and paper feels like a waste of materials. For instance, before some people can write by hand, they need to buy a pen and paper, whereas they have their phones, which are always readily available. Thus, computers make writing faster and reduce costs.

In my opinion, writing by hand using a pen is beneficial in many ways. Firstly, it trains our brains. The act of writing is a highly complex motor exercise. Not only are we moving our hands while writing, but the brain is also directing and coordinating our movements. To illustrate, a patient who suffers a brain injury will be asked to write by doctors using their hands. Thus, it helps to rehabilitate the brain and optimize its function. In addition, note-taking with a pen or paper instead of a computer helps people to digest and remember information they are listening to. For example, someone listening to a lecture can pick up a pen and jot down the salient points. As a result, it helps people to assimilate and recall the information as they have written it in their own words.

In conclusion, a decreasing number of people make use of pens or pencils to write because typing on a computer is swift and cost-effective. I believe handwriting helps to develop our brains and reflects our feelings.
