Some People Think that Environmental Problems Are Too Big for Individuals to Solve (2) (1)

Some people think that environmental problems are too big for individuals to solve, while others think that the government cannot solve these environmental problems unless individuals make some action. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

It is widely acknowledged that environment-related issues are too serious for individuals to handle, whereas some assume the effort from local authorities is less effective without the resolute actions from residents. Although the former opinion is plausible, the latter is more persuasive to me.

The underlying reason for the non-involvement of the person in environmental problems can be the requirement of cooperation between politicians and organizations. Since catastrophic disasters like global warming, prolonged droughts and violent storms are hardly addressed, the coordination of modern equipment and experienced scientists are essential to lower the risk of those natural disasters. For example, it takes excessive decades for researchers to collect samples from the North Pole to estimate the thickness of ice layers. Thus, the trend of climate can be predicted afterwards. As a result, only governments have sufficient funds and resources to invest in this.

However, individuals should also take responsibility for environmental protection. At the individual level, effective solutions like recycling non-biodegradable materials, using environmentally friendly transport and planting more trees can be done to tackle this problem on a small scale. As a result, pollution may be remedied, and the quality of air is likely to be improved. Furthermore, via education, students’ awareness of nature stands a greater chance of being raised and activities doing harm to the environment like deforestation can be prevented. Hence, the progress of solving this issue tends to fasten.

In conclusion, mutually-shared responsibility should be taken by both individuals and governments due to the distinct of this problem.
