Studying the English Language in An English-Speaking Country Is the Best but Not

Studying the English language in an English-speaking country is the best but not the only way to learn a language. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

In this day and age, being bilingual or trilingual is of great importance in every individual’s life. Therefore, acquiring the fluency of English in English spoken countries is regarded as the efficient method but not the alternative one. From my perspective, I partly agree with this opinion due to the underlying reasons relating to finance and adaptation to foreign society.

The abroad venture to learn English can exert beneficial effects on the individual side. One of the obvious implications may be exposure to English-speaking citizens. To describe, living in a completely new land tends to provide the academic learners with an incentive to speak English on a daily basis, which is hardly possible in their own countries. Furthermore, under the pressure of exorbitant tuition, the students are encouraged to be in good command of English at a fast pace in order not to waste the spent amount of money.

However, there are numerous drawbacks that need to be considered, and culture shock is the most conspicuous one. To illustrate, students soon abandon their progress of studying abroad when an incompatibility is a main contributing factor to discourage them. This is because of different backgrounds and harsh competitiveness in academic learning. Moreover, homesickness is another worth mentioning reason for a decision to study a foreign language in their homelands, since the lack of family support and interaction runs a higher chance of ruining the bonds of relatives. Thus, individuals should take this matter into consideration.

In conclusion, with the aforementioned undesirable consequences, a sound and comprehensive decision to whether to study another language in foreign lands.
