Well, in this modern era, we throw old things away to buy new ones, but in my nation, there are many rituals connected to old things that connect us with our grandparents. Here, I am going to talk about an old item that connects with my heart and is worth mentioning.

It is a gold-plated statue of lord- Krishna, the most prized possession in my home. My grandfather gifted this idol to my father, and we all trust in its power to pay obeisance and request the fulfilment of our desires.

My family also prays to the Lord Krishna every day to stay healthy and happy. In my life, I have never seen anything so priceless and recognisable in my family.

It has been a part of my family for a long time, and during that time, it has brought us much happiness and success in everyone’s life.

This statue has a significant role in my family because it connects us with my ancestors and always motivates me to follow my family rituals and respect my parents and others to succeed in life. So, it is an old thing that we kept in my house.

Question 1:- Which do you think are better, old things or new things?

Well, both have their benefits. Talking about old things is good for recalling memories and connecting with our local culture while talking about new things provides us with better comfort and convenience because they are easy to use and based on the latest technology, such as smartphones, vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens, etcetera.

Question 2:- Why do you think people keep these things?

In my opinion, people keep these things to recall happy memories of the past, and they understand the meaning of these things because things are mostly received as gifts on special occasions, which define the kindness of someone towards us.

Question 3:- As well as family photographs, what are some other things that people keep in their family for a long time?

There are various other things, like vehicles, furniture, and antiques, that families like to keep because each thing is worth its own. Also, they collect things like coins, stamps, and other things as hobbies.

Question 4:- In your culture, what sorts of things do people often pass down from generation to generation? (Why?)

In my culture, the most common items passed down from generation to generation are jewellery and ornaments. These items are often prized possessions of a family and part of someone’s inheritance. Other things passed down are traditional attire for auspicious occasions.

Question 5:- What are the benefits (what is the value/what is the importance) of keeping some old things in the family?

There can be numerous benefits of holding on to relics and antiquities that are passed down. These things are often known to help the person financially.

Personal memories are essential for social interactions. Recalling memories provides important material when making new friends or relationships.
