The Best Curriculum Is Not One Based on A Static Body of Knowledge

The best curriculum is not one based on a static body of knowledge, but one which teaches students to cope with change. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Many people will argue that schools today should focus more on adaptability than traditional knowledge. In my opinion, I partially agree with the topic as I feel one should have the basic knowledge as well as hands-on experience to cope in today’s world.

Firstly I would like to talk about basic textbook knowledge. One must know how the world came into existence. How things are what they are. They should have proper knowledge about how things were in the olden days and how it has evolved to become what it is today. They should know about their country’s history or the place they are currently living in. They also need to know all the basics to learn something by experience. For example, if they are not taught the alphabet, they cannot write good words; similarly, if they have no textbook knowledge, they will not be successful in their life no matter what.

Next, here I would say about experiential knowledge, One should have practical knowledge about the things they have learned in school, and I feel that when one is taught both theoretically and practically, that thing tends to be remembered in the long run as compared to something that they have learned only through books. For example, I do not remember a single word that I was taught in physics. However, I remember working with the pendulum to learn about oscillatory motion because this topic was taught in theory and practice.

In the end, I would like to conclude that schools should not just concentrate on theoretical learning but should also inculcate practical learning, which can help the child compete in today’s world.
