Prison is the common way most countries try to solve the problem of crime. However, a more effective solution is to provide the public with a better education. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Nowadays, the crime rate has been increasing worldwide. Although a set of societies argue that prison is the best way to deal with offenders, I completely agree with those who believe that providing better education for people is more effective.
To commence with the agreement side, education for people would be the workable solution to tackle crime. In fact, plenty of evidence had indicated that most offenders lacked schooling when they were young. Moreover, education will help them learn the difference between good and bad as well as they can know the detrimental effects of crime on society. In addition, after getting the best education, they can easily get a job, which will help them fulfil their basic needs and not be forced to commit crimes. Lastly, if they stay in prison for a long time, they will get badly influenced by other criminals.
On the other hand, in a few cases, putting criminals behind bars is necessary because several crimes cannot be neglected. For example, rape, murder and anti-social activities like arson punishment are essential to teach them a proper lesson and make them realise their mistake. Furthermore, jailers can maintain fear amongst potential culprits by making them aware that unlawful conduct has serious consequences. For instance, a recent survey conducted by the Times of India shows that 39% of the crime rate decreases every year after getting a better education.
To summarise, although prison has been viewed as the easiest solution to decrease the number of crimes in countries, education is the alternative solution to solving problems permanently, and education might increase the country’s influence by supplying job opportunities.
