In this day and age, hobbies are of great importance in every individual’s life. Therefore, young people’s approach toward these is changing dramatically, and shopping turns out to be the most preferred pastime among the young. This essay will pinpoint the underlying reasons for this trend and the disagreement against this trend.

There are numerous motives for purchasing lucrative items, and well-known brands are the most conspicuous ones. To illustrate, the fashionable gadgets which are commercialized by the celebrities hired by the high street names tend to be trendy among individuals, especially adolescents. Since the celebrities are likely to be the role models for teenagers to follow and the fact that the products advertised by those are sold immediately is obvious. For instance, Adidas had the collaboration with Kayne West (one of the most influential rappers of all time) to release the sneakers called Yeezy, and they are internationally sold out. Thus, the young have higher chances of being lured into paying for unnecessary and glamorous items by the brands.

From my perspective, this trend should be discouraged due to several reasons. To describe, teenagers can spend their leisure time on more productive activities like partaking in social organizations or outdoor sports. These activities involve physical activeness. Hence, the young generation can avoid chronic diseases and obesity. Furthermore, instead of wasting a sum of money buying unhelpful items, the young can invest that into higher education to enhance their knowledge and ensure a brighter career path in future. For instance, it is evident that those who have academic success will end up having stable and well-paid jobs.
To conclude, I believe that shopping is important when it is related to buying necessary items. But if it becomes obsessions by young people, it may be a problem. They should better spend the money and time doing things that would benefit them in the long run.
