Sample Answer of Describe an Interesting Thing You Have Learned from A Foreign Culture

Culture is the way of life of a group of people. That is the food they eat, how they dress and their way of doing things. People had a peculiar way of expressing their culture in the past.

However, as time progresses, a lot of changes have been effected in most cultures. Most have changed to something more positive and beneficial, while others changed to a more negative way of doing things.

I learnt this behaviour from the western culture during the covid pandemic on television news in which people voluntarily sewed facemasks to distribute to the public.

In contrast, in Africa here, citizens were increasing the prices of facemasks and sanitiser. I was so fascinated by this behaviour of the foreign nation and started doing the same. I believe by so doing, we will become better individuals and grow well as a country.

Part 3 Questions Describe an Interesting Thing You Have Learned from A Foreign Culture

Question 1. How do you learn about celebrations that are related to your culture?

Answer: I mostly learn about celebrations that are in the sink with my culture through stories told by the elderly and also by reading about them in books written by people. Also, I learn them by witnessing them myself when I have spare time.

Question 2. What do you think are common celebrations all over the world?

Answer: I know there are a few common celebrations that take place around the globe. The first one is the Christmas celebration which is usually done on the 25th of December every year. Secondly, I know about the Easter celebration, which is normally done during April of every year. All of these are mostly done by Christians, and I know Muslims also do theirs. That’s the Eid.

Question 3. Do you think we should follow our culture and traditions, and why?

Answer: Absolutely: I somehow agree that some cultures should be followed whiles others should not. This is because culture, they say, is dynamic, and as such, if we notice that its practice is detrimental to our health and breaches societal norms, I believe it shouldn’t be followed; however, if it is something that doesn’t cause any danger to human health and does not impede our human existence, then it can be practised. In Ghana, for instance, we used to practice Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the northern part of the country, but now it has been discontinued.

Question 4. How do you react to spending a lot of money on celebrations?

Answer: Spending money during a celebration is something that is usual. However, I feel so annoyed after realising I have overspent so much money since I could have used that for something that is much more profitable.
