Some people believe that university education aims to help graduates get better jobs. Others believe there are much wider benefits of university education for both individuals and society. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
The argument over the university education helps graduates only to get better jobs or it contributes various benefits to people and society, has not settled yet. In my opinion, the goal of university studies focuses on graduates to attain reputed jobs only.
On the other hand, most of the people, including me believe that majority of the universities play an indispensable role in their students getting placed in different companies rather than providing adequate knowledge to the students. In addition, graduates are trained mostly for attending interviews and related questions. Another point to be considered is that there is more likely students prefer to join universities where there is 100 per cent assured placements. As a result, education standards had begun to deteriorate dramatically by focusing on on-campus placements at large. For instance, one of the articles in “Education Times” magazines clearly state that the National Institute of Engineering college offers 100 per cent job offers to their graduates. However, after a few months around 50 per cent of them got terminated due to the lack of subject knowledge and training.
On the other hand, it is considered by many that university education offers a wide range of knowledge in many areas of subjects. Besides, they believe that the acquisition of knowledge through universities is easier and more accessible to reading materials. The mere activity of learning in universities helps people to attain self-discipline and professional ethics which are prominent in their career growth. Moreover, being stringent to students at a certain level helps them to concentrate and work on their professional growth.
To conclude, increasing education standards towards the students make individuals and society a better way. Therefore, finding a balance between job placements and providing moral education is extremely vital.
