The Position of Women in Society Has Changed Markedly in The Last Twenty Years. Many of The Problems Young People Now Experience, Such as Juvenile Delinquency, Arise from The Fact that Many Married Women Now Work and Are Not at Home to Care for Their Children. to What Extent Do You Agree or Disagree with This Opinion?

In the last two decades, the role of women in society has evolved drastically. It is believed that the moral decadence and other issues with the youths emanate from the fact that wives and mothers now work and are no longer full-time housewives. I strongly disagree with this opinion.

Firstly, a child that will grow wayward will still be wayward regardless of whether the mother is a full-time housewife or a working-class mother. Rather, other factors such as peer groups, society, and exposure are the major contributors to moral decadence among the youths. For example, a Yoruba adage in Nigeria says that a parent can only show the children the right way; the choice to follow the part or not belongs to the children. You can never force your will on the children. Moreso, this has been seen severally where two children from the same parents have undergone the same training. However, one would be a disciplined and responsible adolescent, while the other would be an indisciplined, irresponsible young adult.

Secondly, working-class mothers are very supportive of the family regarding finances. Thereby giving the children comfortable lives above the poverty level and the opportunity to be well educated in a good school. Therefore, the chances of the children becoming responsible adults increased significantly. For instance, the study conducted by Humanity Social Group published in the Nigerian National Daily Times of June 2022 showed that the youths with good formal education live more responsible lives than their counterparts who grew up without education and had to find their way through life.

There are instances when the mothers would be so busy at work, travelling from place to place, hardly having time for the family. The children from such families have been involved in immoral acts, but such cannot generalized to conclude that it is the same for all working-class women. Moreover, home training is the responsibility of both the father and the mother, and everyone is expected to contribute their whole quota for the children to turn out well. So if the mother is busy at work, the father can also guide the children correctly.

In conclusion, moral decadence in society is not because the mothers are now working. Mothers work to support the family and raise responsible youths.
